04.04.08 Whole World

A few weeks ago Carpenter’s Way in Lufkin, Texas brought me and The Jesus Painter in for their Palm Sunday service. We had never worked together before, didn’t have a clue how we were going to make this pairing work, so we just improvised.  I watched him paint and sang what came to mind.  Here’s one moment from that morning. (Apologies for the audio quality.)

I’m thinking about doing a month’s worth of shows with The Jesus Painter or someone equally quick and talented.  Of course the shows would be themed around Compassion: new music, new paintings, performed live, lots of kids sponsored, long-time fans get to see and hear something new.

Any artists you’d recommend for this sort of thing?

Speaking of Compassion, thanks to the folks at The Well in Florence, Alabama for sponsoring 17 kids last night and to Bush and Ben for making the trek with me.

Rob Byers is amazing.  I thinnk you’ll find that Rob has an amazing heart for ministry. I’ve known Rob for 14 years and use him whenever I get the chance.

I thought the audio sounded fine.  Great video.

There’s a woman at our church that does chalk drawings.  It’s been a while, but we did something like this together once with a set theme and less improv.  I don’t think she has a website.

That was incredibly powerful, even more so because it was unscripted. Just beautiful.

hey shaun -
i work with both Joe Castillo and Eric Timm (http://www.robbinggravesforchrist.com).  Eric’s very passionate about Compassion and would be great to partner with!  very “non-traditional” modern art.  here is one created for compassion: http://youtube.com/watch?v=kwNkXzYaWDo.

Shawn McDonald had a guy on tour with him awhile back who painted while he sang, I believe this is the guy’s, Scott Erickson, website:  http://www.thetranspireproject.com/.

Also, Anneli Anderson does the same sort of thing, more Spirit-led, I think:  http://www.studioanneli.com/Live%20Painting.html.

That was a beautiful song, thanks for sharing!

Wow!  I’ve never actually heard you sing before.  What talent.

Mike Lewis is also incredibly talented.  I loved watching him when he came to my church about a year ago.

And, btw, the clean-shaven look really works for you. wink

Shaun,
I passed this along to an artist who does paintings at our Church.  He does the paintings during worship as an expression of worship.  Once I have some picture samples, I will send a link.  -G
