07.07.07 “Welcome Home Helped Me Get Lucky”
We just sound checked here in Tacoma, Washington, catapulted some pigs (Hey, it’s in the pastor’s office is all I know), and then I sat down to check my mailbox. In it I found an e-mail titled “Welcome Home Helped Me Get Lucky.” It reads…
hey shaun,
your myspace greeting is great, and since it says that this is the address where you actually read and respond to emails, i’m testing the theory....
i’m sure you get a ton of people telling you how great welcome home is, with it being both a great song, and the track that launched your career. hopefully you’ll enjoy a new spin on the proverbial “thank you so much for that song, it changed my life”so check this out, i hope you get a kick out of it: i was attending grace college in indiana as a freshman in 2002. one night i was in the campus coffee shop waiting at the bar and started talking to this pretty girl who was a couple of seats away. i was and still am a musician (who isn’t these days) so i usually steer conversations toward that topic because it’s what i know. so we were talking about favorite bands and artists and she mentioned “shaun groves” as one of her faves, asking if i’d ever heard of you before. i responded with something like “yeah, doesn’t he sing that song ‘welcome home’?” as it happened, welcome home was like her favorite song (and still is) so she was captivated. i was immediately transformed from some dude at a coffee bar hitting on her, to a steaming casanova (maybe not that dramatic, but she was definitely impressed). we started hanging out more, then dating, and long/short we were married in july of 2004.
so as much as i would love to credit my marriage to how smooth i am, i’m pretty sure your song as a conversation starter was what sealed the deal.
late.

Yes, Dave, I read my e-mail and respond. Thanks for the laugh.
If the rest of you would like to get...um...something to talk about with the ladies just go buy the song that made it happen for Dave in the Shop.

now you have hit on something important: Christians are not reproducing at nearly the same rate as Muslims and Hindus, so............. what we really need to keep us a big powerful world religion is Christian hook up music.
