02.19.08 Stories Of Compassion: It’s Your Turn

For a week now a group of us bloggers have been telling our stories about Compassion International as we’ve witnessed their work first hand in Uganda.  Now it’s your turn to tell your story.  Here’s how we’ll do this…

STEP 1: Write a blog post about your experience with Compassion.  Tell us about your child, why you decided to sponsor him or her, what they write you, how sponsoring has affected you and yours, or show us their picture.  Just tell your story of Compassion.

STEP 2: Link back to this post in your post. Ask your readers to tell their story on their blogs, and to leave their link here (See STEP 3) so we can read it...and on and on it’ll go. Stories about Compassion all over the internet and all listed here for us to read.

STEP 3: Put your name and URL in the box below (the address of your post about Compassion, not your home page).  Your link will appear here in this post and your story will get read by hundreds, maybe even thousands.

Go for it.  It’s your turn. Tell your story of Compassion.

Shaun,
I clicked on my name up above and it came up on the Compassion post, not the main page. Did I do something wrong?

I’m new to sponsoring with Compassion, so we don’t even have our picture of Juana yet, but we have already sent her our first email.

As soon as we get our packet, I’ll update the blog and share her sweet face with all those who are still reading!

Thanks so, so much for hosting this, Shaun. I have thoroughly enjoyed following y’all through this entire experience.

Done! I wrote my story last week, but updated the links at the end so it all lines up, even though I really don’t think I have that many readers. Maybe a grand total of 3 or 4 regulars. Which is fine by me. =) You never know who will respond!

Thanks, Shaun!

p.s. I noticed a few fellow commenters that are new to Compassion, like myself. I e-mailed them to ask a few questions about my girl and such, and they sent back answers along with a high-res photo of her! I’m sure they’d do the same for those of you who want to post photos on your blogs!

Today we decided to sponsor a second child. Our first Compassion-child is Brayan, almost 16 years old and throughout our marriage (6,5 years now) we sponsored him. Now, we will let our 4-year old choose a 4-6 year old girl to be our second Compassion-child.

It’s so important to tell our kids that there’s more to life than our very, very comfortable lifes…

Thanks, Shaun! I’ve learned a lot from you and the other Compassion bloggers the last couple of weeks.

I don’t have a blog, but wanted to chime in and let the Uganda Team know that another child has been sponsored because of the trip you all took!

I spent days crying at every post, video and picture your group posted. Then I sat and listened to your message about Compassion.

Cheer for yourselves, because another child has been sponsored. As of Saturday, Joel from Uganda is now a part of my family. He’s already 19, but I wanted an older child since my boys are 21 and 19. I’m waiting for my initial package and I’m so excited!

My 9 year old granddaughter and I sat at the computer this week end and she chose a 9 year old girl in Ethiopia to sponser. She is excited about this and I’m grateful that you guys have given us the opportunity to see how these children live and what Compassion really means. It means compassion.

Sharing our thoughts with others about our Compassion sponsorship is one of the most effective ways as Advocates to encourage others to sponsor as well. It is also a great way to journal the progress and changes that are taking place in a sponsored child’s life. It is so awesome to exchange letters and with each one, see and hear the posative changes taking place in her life. It is awesome that others are gathering together to share. There is so much joy in our life sponsoring Khaterin, from Bolivia.  Being sponsors has become a blessing with priceless value.
Khaterin has been a blessing that words can not express.

God Bless,

I just got to meet the little girl I sponsor less than a month ago.  It was such a great experience.  I’ll be back in Haiti in April and I will get to hang out with her again.  I love that Compassion gives me the opportunity to not only “give” but to have a relationship with a child.  I truly love this little girl and it’s so exciting to journey through life with her!

This is a wonderful idea.  I have really enjoyed being a part of Compassion’s ministry and getting to know my adorable sponsored child - Rafaela.  She is as much of a blessing to my life as I am to hers.  Maybe more.  I’m looking forward to meeting her one day.  I love Compassion’s ministry.  I can’t say enough good things about it.  Keep up the good work and keep spreading the word!
