04.03.08 Re:Write

Great songs aren’t written; they’re rewritten.

I’ve got this internet TV channel (thanks to Los‘ expertise).  I sometimes broadcast shows live on it but, for the most part, it just sits there looping Youtube videos.

Also, people hand me demos of their music all the time, e-mail me lyrics, send me links to their site to have a listen.  They, for some reason, want my opinion on their writing and performing.

Also, I know a lot of great writers and performers.

Also, I can spare a couple hours to give my two cents.

So, here’s an idea.  Tell me what you think.  Once in a while (vague enough?) I could ask you guys to send me lyrics and mp3s of your best songs.  Then, I and a song writing pro could critique, offer tips and encouragement live on the internet.  You all could chat there as well - ask questions, cheer one another on, etc.  We’d call it Re:Write.

If I did this, would anyone be interested in participating?  For free?

I’m thinking we’d do this in the evening when people are out of school and off work.

8PM Central Time.  How’s that sound?

What night of the week has nothing good on TV?

8:00 sounds good and any night works for me. Nothing on TV I couldn’t miss, but I know there are a lot of Lost fans, and that’s on Thursday nights.

Mmmm.  Good word, cct.  Must avoid Lost.  When American Idol?  That’s still on TV right?

I hear there’s nothing good on t.v. on Wednesday nights, but then some people use that time for other activities… business activities, you might say.

You should try taking just lyrics and making your own song out of it. It would be interesting to compare the lyric writer’s song with your own smile

This is a great idea.

I’d want to be in, if I were the kind of person who opened myself up to critique.

But since I’m ultimately incredibly shy with my creativity, I’d just listen in while you critique others.

LOST is on hiatus until the end of April.
The important night of AI is Tuesday, though next week is the charity star studded event on Wednesday.

Just giving you my tv knowledge, I’m not a songwriter.  But I think it’s a really cool idea and I’d love it if I was a songwriter.

I think that’s an awesome idea and I don’t even write music. Wish I did. I just sing. But, if you do decide to do it, I’ll mention it to a couple of my friends who do write.

I’m only one person, but if it’s at 8 on Wednesday’s I’d miss it. No questions asked, unless it was between June and September. Thursday’s are big TV nights, and so are Sunday’s, kind of.

And yeah… I think that would be awesome. One of my friends is an amazing songwriter. I don’t know if she would go for it though.

Shaun,

I’d be in and welcome the critique - any night but Thursday’s (though not because of Lost - our Praise Band rehearses Thursdays)

Shaun, I would love it. Pick any night and I can probably rearrange my schedule for it. Ah… the beauty of being a manager. Except for those few times when my schedule rearranges me. Ah… the curse of being a manager.

One thing though… I love how creative that logo looks… but it really hurts my eyes.
