02.10.08 Gathering Of The Geeks In Chicago

We’re almost all here, gathered at our gate in Chicago and, as luck would have it, beside a Starbucks (I think Carlos prayed) .

The level of geekery in our general vicinity is off the geekery scale - just past “sleeps between Star Wars sheets after a long day of playing Dungeons and Dragons while rockin’ out to Clay Aiken.” That’s pretty geeky.  And we’re proud.

We’ve talked Twitter, Google Page Rank, SEO, and Technorati Authority algorithms.  Yes, the word “algorithm” was actually used.  More than once.  And we understood it’s usage clearly.

Wow.  I’ve found my tribe: Nerds who love kids.

By the way, ratio of Texans to non-Texans at the gate so far: 5 to 7.

Next stop Brussels, then Africa.

Let the blogging begin.

Please make no reference to algorithms when with the children.  You’ll scare them for sure!

Praying y’all there and can’t wait to hear of all God does during your stay.

Give Sophie and Shannon (mama geeks, I guess) a big hug from a once Texan who finds herself in the Peach State for a piece of her sojourn.

I’ll be checking back each day.

BTW, thanks for your post from Friday. Touched my heart in a big, big way.

Shaun,
You are guaranteed that many will be praying for you these next days.  I hope you know that you have made the undersigned very proud because you are allowing God to use you in every way possible.  Give each child with whom you come in contact an extra hug - one for all of us praying for you and your group.
Remember us here at Brook Hill as well.  While those to whom we minister are certainly very wealthy compared to those you are with now, our hope is that we can train them up to be disciples of Christ and good stewards of those things God has entrusted to them and in so doing, empower them to continue the ministries of Compassion, et al until the Lord returns.
Take care, buddy, and we are looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks.

Yee Haw for Texans - we love us some children and geeks.  Especially ones who understand that caring about the poor and lonely IS the answer to WWJD.  Bless y’all - give lots of hugs for those of us unable to travel to our Compassion kids.
