09.10.07 Castle Rocks
Tonight I played at Glen Eyrie castle, built around 1900 by the founder of Colorado Springs as a memorial to his deceased wife who was from England, where castles come from. It’s owned by the Navigators, who use it for conferences, camps, and rent it out for weddings and other church groups to use.
We didn’t just play here; we stayed here. That’s Brody surfing the net in style on our room’s antique couch.
Brody, who’s real dream job is photographer, liked the dim orange-ish lighting around the castle so much that he couldn’t stop taking pictures. This is one of the clothed ones. (Joking. No mail please.)
The place is full of tiny hallways and dark corners. We explored them all. Didn’t find a single hidden dungeon or underground lair. Dang.
We did find this stuff.
We’re sleeping in the original owner’s master bedroom. He’s dead now. That’s creepy. That’s the dead guy’s balcony.
And that’s me standing on the balcony surveying all that lies below, like the dead guy probably did.
The dead guy had a great view.
Yes he did.
After photographing the place thoroughly, I went and played some music in the “great room.” It was good. I wouldn’t call it great but that’s just me.
Actually, seriously, it was great. The crowd was 75% Navigators and Compassion International staff (they’re based in Colorado Springs) and they were very fun. Easy laughers. Pretty good clappers. And great conversations afterwards.
Today makes last weekend’s staring contest look boring by comparison.

(I was kidding)
Did you guys have time to do any hiking? The hike to the waterfalls is great, definitely one of my favorites.

I was just listening to some music from The High Strung, and remembered that they have done some library tours (going around for a couple of months playing at public libraries). I was thinking - is this going to launch the Shaun Groves’ Castle Tour? You could probably have worse gigs.

So, Mr. Groves, I ask you, in your travels across America - have you found any place to be quite as beautiful as Colorado?
I managed to cross the country in a van several times whilst playing music (much like your self), and so far, I think Colorado is my favorite state…

Weird, I just realized I post on here with two different names. Sometimes I’m bncampbell. Sometimes I’m Brandy. I’m ALWAYS “that girl who corrects everything,” according to Shaun

Very cool Shaun and Brody. Love the pictures (especially the clothed ones), looking forward to some video of the gig. Who won the staring contest? My money is on that cow.

I very much whole-heartedly agree with Brody… the orangish lighting and the background in that picture of you is incredible… I would also have taken a million pictures there!

So, now I have yet another reason to want to live in Colorado…
I appreciate your sense of humor, Shaun.
Don’t take for granted the ability to enjoy the simple things :0)

Ok. That’s SO cool that you got to go snooping around in a castle. And you got to sleep there. How fun.
How can I get invited there? Perhaps I could do a riveting xhtml/css presentation?
Hmm...maybe I need to go practice my guitar.
Thanks for sharing those pics!
