07.16.08 Camp Chick-fil-A
I was wrong. The Chick-fil-A in Carmel, Indiana I played today didn’t bring me in for a grand opening. Nope. They’ve been open since December 2006! Today, was what they called “Camp Chick-fil-A.” It’s one of a week’s worth of themed days - creating some fun for families in their community and a lot of buzz.
My friends the Lohes hooked me up with this gig and they’re sharing their tent with me tonight too. That’s right, we’re sleeping in the parking lot of a Chick-fil-A. Me and three members of the Lohe family. And two friends of theirs. No spooning. We’re not there in our relationship yet.
Here’s a shot of everyone watching a movie on the big screen in the parking lot before turning in for the night. Like you do. At your local Chick-fil-A.
And I met a bunch of corporate guys from Chick-fil-A HQ in Atlanta. We talked blogging. I’ll be sending them a bill - or I’ll get free chicken for life. I’ll let them choose.

Hey man, we can give you both a large fee AND more free chicken...possibly for life. I’ll call Truett and see what he thinks, ok?
Awesome job tonight, and great time spent with you man. Thanks for instilling the blogging fever in us and hopefully we can convince Chick-fil-A to get on the bandwagon.

I know someone who would totally be game for camping at a restaurant… too bad we don’t have cool places like that where I live.

Im jealous.. I want to sleep in the parking lot of my Chick-fil-A. You don’t have many stories like that now these days.

I’m about 100 miles outside of Nashville. I started getting sleepy and pulled off the interstate for a little walk around in the cold AC of a Hampton Inn. (Travel tip: hotels (not motels) have a public bathroom on their ground floor that’s ALWAYS cleaner than a fastfood or gas station bathroom.)
Stepped into their business center to check the blog - I wrote this post way too late last night - wasn’t sure what I said or if it was even coherent.
After posting this last night, I TRIED to sleep - didn’t go so well. Turns out a lot of the “campers” weren’t so much camping as playing all night long. Skateboarding, volleyballing, running, and other forms of annoyance abounded. Sleep did not. I’m heading home on a few hours rest, baby sitting the kids and then, as early as possible, I’m crashing.

My mind is juxtaposing your search for simplicity, Haiti trip, Uganda blogger trip and camping at ChickFilA - you have a fascinating life don’t you? Right ON Chick folks - I’m not a huge fried foods consumer but I may just stop for some waffle fries on my next trip into town!

Very cool Shaun. Free Chick-fil-A for Life...priceless! What was the movie? A “chick” flick? Sorry, very bad pun.

During my last Chick-Fil-A visit the store manager was dressing little kids up in cow costumes and having them “audition” in a “So You Want to be a Cow” contest. They had to sing and dance to Born to be Wild...all while sporting a spotted fur suit with a 30 pound head. It was precious I tell ya.
Maybe you could do that on your next Chick-Fil-A adventure?? They have costumes for all sizes but not sure if they’re fair trade fake cow hair...might need to research further...or not.

Chick-fil-a is a great community place.
They totally absolutely one hundred percent need a blog.

Dude, I want to know how you scored this gig. Daddy could use a year of free chicken.
(And yes, I just called myself “Daddy”.)
