02.02.07 Miss Denver
Angela, a myspace friend, downloaded “Miss Texas” from MyFreeMusicFriday.com yesterday and then wrote me…
“I’m now sitting before my computer with tears in my eyes. That song touched something deep down in me. My husband and I had to move our family from Denver to Santa Maria, California, in July. This was the hardest move we’ve ever done, being in the Air Force. Something in our hearts became knit to Denver while we were there. It’s not like we can quite put our finger on it. But, listening to your song… it spoke what I haven’t been able to. I’ve sat with my guitar and notebook, trying to pour emotions out. The writing process is always such a release for me, healing. But I haven’t been able to do it with these feelings, these longings for someplace we may never live again. Hearing your song is helping me get those out; voicing the sadness and ache for a part of my heart that I don’t think I’ll ever be able to recover. It’s more than the people, the house, the church. Maybe they’re just a past that is just that: past.”
This is one reason I write music: connection. And letters like these keep me inspired to do so.

I was born and raised in Texas, but moved to Alabama in ‘94. I can identify with this song as well.
Although things have been better for me since I moved, there will always be that part of me that will, for lack of better words, miss Texas.
