Sorry I haven’t been keeping up with the child sponsorship number updates on this thread.  The total for this tour (me for free tour, we’ve been calling it) is 328 kids so far!!

And Compassion has decided to underwrite another tour like this one starting in, I believe, May.  I’ll let you know the details when they’re finalized so you can help me get the word out to churches and promoters who may be interested in having a Compassion Sunday event or concert with me involved in some way.

Thanks for all your prayers for this tour.  I’ve never felt a greater sense of purpose in my work than I do right now.  We’re saving kids every night!  I love my job.

That is awesome!  I hope we have a great response in Grand Forks on Sunday too.

Yes we did!  His name is Leonardo and he’s from Equador.  His birthday is just 3 days after our little Wedner!  Both 8 years old and adorable!  We’re getting a letter and pictures ready to send off now.

There’s no fancy lighting rig, no tour bus, no crew, no elaborate catering.  Just me and an instrument on a stage for free.  And children who need our help.

Since the beginning of 2007 I’ve been playing concerts at no cost to promoters in exchange for them letting me speak about Compassion International for seven to ten minutes during my full-length concert.  This uniquely cheap tour is just past it’s halfway point now and if things continue to go as they have so far the people attending my shows will have saved over 600 children from poverty in Jesus’ name when all is said and sung.  600 children in just over three months!

I’ve never been more motivated to get out of bed than I am these days - knowing that I’m not just making music but giving my audience the opportunity to save the lives of children at the same time.  And they’re taking it!

Because of the enormous success of this touring approach, and because Compassion International has asked me to, we’re doing it again...and taking bookings starting today. I’m waving my fee so that exposing people in your community to the child-saving work of Compassion International will cost you nothing but time and effort.  So, contact my friend Brian Seay today to bring me to your city in MAY, JUNE, JULY or AUGUST of 2007.

And hurry.

The last time we did this we booked the entire tour - three months of shows! - in just two weeks.

Please, spread the word about this opportunity to save money and save lives.  Post it on your blogs.  Pass the word to your college chaplain or student activities director.  Tell a minister at your church about it.  Tell promoters in your city.  Help us make this tour as great a success as the last, and save more kids from poverty.

Thank you in advance.

The tour is almost completely booked...and had to be extended to September to accommodate all the interest! Thanks for spreading the word.

And, tonight, in Palm Desert, CA: 22 kids were saved!

I got a first letter from my second sponsored child (or rather her mother) this weekend!

I was very excited, though I found it amusing (and kind of sad) that she said they practice the Buddhist faith and signed the letter in Jesus Christ’s love.

It was cool to get one so fast, though, it seems to take forever to hear from my other sponsored child.

I haven’t been posting the number of kids sponsored every week because I haven’t been able to keep track.  But I do know that we have officially crossed the 600 mark.  600 kids sponsored in less than three months!

THANK YOU to everyone who made this tour happen and sponsored a child through Compassion International.  I love my “job.”

Hey guys, I didn’t know a better place to post this, but I just wanted to let you all know that I just returned from my first Compassion trip to Ethiopia. If anyone’s interested, I’ve posted my journals on my website, as well as some photos from the trip. Thanks again for your prayers!

Aw, thanks so much Shaun. It was an incredible, life-changing experience, and I’m already itching to get back on the field again. In time! There are so many wonderful stories that I get to read about Compassion’s impact every day, and I’m just so blessed to be part of this ministry. I think I’m going to start posting some of my favorite stories on my blog smile

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., April 24, 2007 – Compassion International <http://www.compassion.com/default.htm> has announced plans to boost its funding of malaria aid by nearly $2 million in fiscal year 2008, beginning in July.

Wednesday is Malaria Awareness Day, as designated by the White House, and Africa Malaria Day, as proclaimed by the continent’s governments.

Compassion will encourage its sponsors and donors to contribute to its new Malaria Intervention Fund. The plan is to provide Compassion-assisted children and their families with mosquito nets, malaria prevention education and access to medical treatment.

Though rare in the United States, malaria kills 1 million people a year, mostly in Africa, where it accounts for about one in five childhood deaths. The disease usually afflicts the disenfranchised in the developing world, who tend to live in poorly constructed homes that are open to malaria-infected mosquitoes.

“Compassion’s malaria program is all about saving lives; it educates our beneficiaries about prevention and treatment and aids families through the provision of long lasting insecticide treated nets,” said Amy Metzger, Compassion International Health Program Specialist. “Some of our other preventive measures include the spraying of homes for risk reduction and the clearing of environments suitable for mosquito breeding.”

Compassion’s malaria initiative works primarily in Africa because of the widespread impact the disease has had on the continent. Presently, the ministry’s program serves more than 200,000 African children and their families in the fight against malaria.

“We know malaria has enormous influence on our assisted children as each infection causes them to miss valuable days at school,” Metzger said. “Their parents are also affected by missing days at work and as a result productivity in both settings is compromised. Our program is reducing the magnitude of this unfortunate trend. By helping our beneficiaries combat malaria, we are helping them to be more productive in school and work. These are steps in the right direction that enable countries to gain momentum, becoming more economically viable and educated.”

Compassion International <http://www.compassion.com/Default.htm> is one of the world’s largest Christian child-development organizations, working with more than 65 denominations and thousands of indigenous church partners in Africa, Asia, Central and South America and the Caribbean. Since 1952, Compassion has touched the lives of more than 1.5 million children and has been recognized for its financial integrity with top ratings and recommendations by several of the nation’s leading not-for-profit “watchdog” organizations. For information about sponsoring a child, contact Compassion online at Compassion.com <http://www.compassion.com/default.htm> or by calling (800) 336-7676, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., MST.

Hey everyone!

I was on author Julie Carobini’s blog and saw this great thing she’s doing.

If you read Christian books and ever buy them from Christianbook.com, you can also help save children by buying them through Julie’s affiliate link this summer.  Christianbook Link

She will donate the ten percent she receives to Compassion International and update on the progress through her blog.

So, I just wanted to share this slideshow that I created for our Compassion Sunday program. I worked really hard on it, and I’m very pleased with how it turned out. (And I sent it to some of my friends, and half of them decided to sponsor...woo hoo!)

http://www.compassion.com/share/compassionsunday/downloadableresources/default.htm (it’s item #2, the presentation)

Let me know your thoughts...or better yet, share it with your friends, your church, etc.!
