Alright, I did this post on the elder boards so I’m putting it on here too.

So what did you get for Christmas and what was your favorite gift you got or gave?

Let’s see.  My boys bought me a programmable coffee pot, my daughter bought me an electronic sodoku game (I love those puzzles) and my hubby bought me a very cool digital camera that takes video too.  The best thing about it is that it can fit in my purse, unlike our other digital camera that needs it’s own purse!  I also got some clothes from mom and dad.

Ken and I had fun doing a sort of makeover on Sierra’s bedroom, which was her Christmas surprise.  The boys didn’t really need or ask for anything, so they got clothes, shoes, etc.  Cam got an MP3 player and Justin got several DVD’s for his collection.

Another gift for the children was the money to pay for the trip they (maybe all of us?) will take with their youth group during spring break to New Orleans to help mud and rebuild homes that were affected by Katrina.  (This is still in the organizational process at church, though, so we’re not 100% sure they will go.)

My brother and I both chipped in an bought my mom an iPod for when she takes the dog on a walk.. I think that was my favorite gift to give. She was excited.

I got several books for Christmas, including:
“The Life of the Blessed Virgin Mary” by Blessed Anne Catherine Emmerich (she also wrote another work that Mel Gibson’s “The Passion” was based on)
“The Practice of the Love of Jesus Christ” by St. Alphosus Liguori
“Surprised by Joy” by CS Lewis (which completes my CS Lewis collection!)
“An Exorcist: More Stories” by Father Gabriele Amorth
Other than that I got a few DVDs ("I Confess” and “Therese"), and some gift certificates.

Let me mingle tears with thee, Mourning Him who mourned for me, All the days that I may live. By the cross with thee to stay, There with thee to weep and pray, Is all I ask of thee to give.”

My favorite present was the remote starter that my husband got me for the truck!  It’s technically his truck, but I drive it in the winter ‘cause it’s a 4x4.  I love being able to get in a toasty warm truck in the winter.

I also got a new pasta pot, a new ice cream scoop and a small back massager.

I love to give gifts though much better.  I got my husband some great software for home-building so he can actually show me the dream house he wants to build for us.  He also got many big tool purchases to continue to work on the truck he and our son are restoring.

Alex got his class ring and he’s very proud of it.  He LOVES M*A*S*H and he got the final season of that on DVD.

Kelly is absolutely thrilled with her new pink iPod, and Mackenzie added to her ever-growing collection of “Littlest Pet Shop” animals and play houses.  Mary is playing her new Fisher Price “I Can Play” piano and loving every minute of it!

Getting Scott’s parents a tracfone was a good surprise for them and a relief for us.  Now they’ll be able to contact us when they travel and vice versa.

.

I got more stuff than I deserved.  LOL  But my favorites were a super soft throw that a friend gave me so I wouldn’t freeze in my drafty old house in the winter; a rolling scrapbook supply tote from my older sister-in-law; an Enter the Haggis CD and a book on writing dramatic nonfiction from my parents-in-law and a bracelet with Romans 8:28 engraved on it, from my younger sister-in-law who, with her husband accepted Christ at the funeral of my husband--her big brother. I think that bracelet was the best gift for me because it’s a reminder of something wonderful coming out of something difficult.

The gifts that I liked giving the best were donations in the names of my five nieces and nephews and my sisters-in-law and their husbands to charities that were important to them. I give the kids something that relates to the donation--like to my youngest nephew I gave the game Operation and then the charity I gave to in his name was Samaritan’s Purse’s emergency medical care fund.  His sister loves dogs so I got her a litter of stuffied puppies and a donation to train Seeing Eye dogs.  I write each person a letter telling them some of the things I love most about them, and explain why, based on those wonderful traits of theirs, that I chose the charity I did to give in their honor.
