There are still things you don’t know about me...many things…

for instance, one of my favorite bands is Enter The Haggis

Their music is a combination of traditional celtic, folk, punk and rock using fiddles, bagpipes, flute, drums and guitars...all the good things wrapped up in one, as far as I’m concerned.  Plus, they wear kilts!

If they’re playing anywhere near you, make the pilgrimage.  It’s one of the most fun live band experiences you’ll ever have.

That’s awesome!  They sound really cool (well I haven’t heard their music yet… I mean their style and the pictures make them seem really cool and unique!)

Although… I went to an International Festival thing in Roanoke a couple of years ago, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they played there.  The guy on the left of the second picture looks a little familiar…

Was that the Virginia Highlands Festival?  I was there for a day or two in ‘04 and caught a bunch of Celtic rock bands.  I can’t remember if Haggis played.  I’ve only been a HaggisHead for about a year.

No, it wasn’t that… I wish I remembered the name.  I was just looking at old Livejournal entries to see if I could find it, but I didn’t.  But I think it was in May 2004, because I want to say it was at the end of my freshman year.  It was at a park in downtown Roanoke.  And this German band sang too.

EDIT:
I found out… it was called Local Colors, a festival at Elmwood Park in Roanoke.  They have it every year.  I just can’t find out if Enter the Haggis played or not, lol.

Ever heard of Ceili Rain?  Bob Halligan’s band.  I’ll drum up a link and post it later.  Same kind of thing.  Celtic rock/folk.

Ceili Rain, sure. They’re more pop than the stage leaping, pink haired punk fiddler in Haggis.  LOL

But yeah, like them too.

I’ve not seen them live, but I’ve heard a lot of their music.  Very fun, very good.  You might check out Gaelic Storm (better known as the steerage band from Titanic).

Ooooh, thanks for the suggestion. I didn’t realize that that was a *real* band in the movie.

Enter the Haggis was in town this week and I loved watching the bar regulars wander over, totally surprised by what they were hearing. LOL

Euphrony, have you heard their newest CD?  It leans more jazz than punk this time around.

I haven’t heard their new CD.

There’s a great place here in Houston - McGonigels Mucky Duck, a traditional Irish pub - that has live music nightly from really good bands.  Tonight they have a group called The Rogues, and in a few weeks Clandestine, The Greencards, Battlefield Band, Solas, and others (links to all these bands can be found on the Duck’s calander). Every Wednesday night they have an Irish Session, exploring the traditional music, but they have a rather wide range of styles come play - string quartets, zydeco, folk, a little rock.  It’s a fun place to visit, always good music and the food is superb.
