So for all you music lovers out there: What’s your genre? Rock? Classical? Heavy Metal? Oldies? Christian/Religious? New Age? Dance? Do you have your own kind of genre that you just made up?

My kinda genre is made up.....Love Music. I am a Love music fanatic thus I consider it my genre.

I subscribe to your I love music genre theory, however I recently gave it my own title, “faith-influenced”.  I love Christian music, particularly rock and soft rock of course, however I also love Sarah McLachlan, Barenaked Ladies, Collective Soul, Live, The Fray, Snow Patrol, Dashboard Confessional, The Killers, Goo Goo Dolls, The Corrs, Edwin McCain, Evanescence, Death Cab for Cutie, Maroon 5, Coldplay, U2, Depeche Mode, Lifehouse and Matchbox 20.

Some of those artists are considered “emo” so I guess I especially like “faith-influenced emotional alternative rock and soft rock”.

I may have to create that genre on iTunes and get a patent for it.

Cool topic,
Kevin

Contemperary Christian, Metal/Rock Christian, very little country(Rascal Flatts, Carrie Underwood, little Shania Twain), some oldies, some secular.  I’ve kind of have a wide variety. But my main style is anything Christian.

I believe the perfect song would of course have an honest, unchisled Christian spirit, the lyrics would speak what the artist is truly trying to say, not just what comes to their mind first, the music would have the volume (loudness) of modern rock with a vintage sound (like the beatles, the elms, pfr, etc.), the throbbing beat of hip-hop that makes you feel like your heart is causing your whole body to shake with every drop, the groovy movement of a bluesy feeling, and an original, pure, amazing melody that just hits the spot with every note sung.

That, in my ears, would make the perfect genre.

Mary Ann, you are speaking my language.  Lately, the 2 artists that fit that description pretty well are Needtobreathe, especially Signature of Divine (Yahweh) and Jackson Waters, especially Come Undone and Give Me Amazing Grace.

If it’s the Lord’s will and I become a professional songwriter (my dream job), that’s the style I want to do.

MaryAnn,

I think NEEDTOBREATHE totally fits the style of music you are describing, especially on their newest album “The Heat” which is brilliant in my opinion.  Here is my review on Amazon: Kevin’s Amazon Reviews

I know, NEEDTOBREATHE is exponentially COOL!!!  I got The Heat for Christmas and I’ve been listening to it almost nonstop.  A couple months ago I got to see them in concert (I stood right in front of Bear at the stage!) and met them afterward.  Very nice!  NTB is officially in my top 5 faves.
