Ok, so I finally signed up yesterday. And you guys...Facebook has so much more stuff on it than MySpace. I think I need a fistful of Ritalin to keep up with all the little announcements and oh my....
I am getting writing on my wall (who knew I had a wall???) and I’ve been poked and I think that might be a good thing since Lois did it and Lois does good things. But what does it mean to be poked? Do I poke back? Do we then just poke each other back and forth until we’re both bruised? And, and, and...oh, could somebody under the age of 23 please help me figure this stuff all out?
Facebook has changed a lot since I joined the end of my sophomore year in college. I don’t know how I feel about all the applications… it can get crowded. Then again I’ve added a few applications, haha. I still like it better than Myspace because Myspace, music plays randomly when you visit profiles (so annoying) and people can change backgrounds and fonts and it can be very hard to read stuff.
Anywho… poking is just a random thing. You just poke each other back and forth for as long as you want.
I have not used the wall feature that much. I am scared to poke someone because I do not know what it means. The one thing I like about facebook is that I do not get these so called women telling me I am the greatest thing since sliced bread then offer me the chance to look at their pictures.
poking is just for fun. to me personally it says “im thinking of you!” and you can choose whether you want to poke back or not. like, ive been in a poking war with a friend of mine since i started facebook. haha.
i havent put any applications on my facebook because i feel like they just junk up the thing and turn it into another myspace. so i just leave it plain.
on facebook you can poke friends, write on their walls, message, write blogs, add pictures, fill in your profile, and join groups - which are sometimes silly and sometimes cool and sometimes downright stupid. haha. oh and the status can be whatever you want, as random or as true to what you are feeling as you want.
i use facebook to connect with people almost more than i use email.
And I have no idea how I added you. Like I have no idea how I ended up with the screen name I have on there. I think Facebook did the thinking for me and autoadded people from IM. Or email. Or something. But I’m still missing lots of people.
Oh man, so keep the tips coming. I am taking notes!
Is there a way *not* to announce it to all your friends everytime you blow your nose? I have all these messages that this one added that one as a friend, the other one added such and such feature on their profile. Is it possible to go potty without announcing it to all your Facebook friends???
Thomas, I just poked you. Kristen (sputnik) and I have been in a poking war since I got a facebook, too. You have to hit the button labeled “home” at the top to see when someone pokes you...or atleast I do.
Robyn, you have a TON of friends, but I finally found Nancy! Nancy, I just added you as a friend.
Oh, and Nancy, so long as you don’t blow your nose or go potty while you’re signed IN to facebook, you should be able to do it in private. Please, anyone, let me know if I’m wrong about this!
You might have to click the “home” button at the top on the left. I can’t remember, it’s been a long time since I added friends. But I think it will ask how you know this person, etc. and you can answer the questions or decline.
Cali Amy and Lois, I found you two, so I added you both.
I hope that I done this right by asking Nancy to be on my friend list. All I know, I could have told it to delete everything and shut down. Now I just need to get some free time to find everyone else and hopefully not crash everything.

Yeah, you can turn off your “news feed” and “mini-feed” (these tell everyone what you’ve done). After logging in, click “privacy” in the top right corner. Then click on “News feed and mini feed” and then you’ll be able to check what actions facebook will notify everyone of and you can choose which things can be private (and facebook won’t send anyone the message). Just be sure to save the changes! Is that what you were wondering? To view your own mini feed (or someone else’s for that matter) click on “Profile” in the top left corner and then click “Mini-Feed” which is located on the right half of the screen below your name and other info.
Ohhhh, yeah I think that’s what I want, Kristen. So I can shut everyone else’s feeds off too so I don’t have to read everytime somebody clips their toenails? Not that’s not interesting, but you know…
