ok.  have any of you had one before?

i just got diagnosed with one in my foot (the first metatarsal...the long bone of my “pointer” toe).  i’m nervous about how to treat it (thinking i might do things wrong and break it or something).  i’m wearing a boot cast whenever i am putting weight on it (except when i shower, of course), but i want to treat it in a way that it will NOT get worse.

the even better part of the story is that i’ll be heading to las vegas for a music festival in 2 weeks, which will mean lots of walking between the dorms and the rehearsals/performances…

Cancel the tap dancing lessons.

How long did they say it’ll take to heal?  I’m praying, Robyn.

he actually didn’t say how long it would take to heal.  he told me to take the boot to vegas and use it if i needed it, and to come back in a month if it’s still bothering me.

however, what i’ve read, it takes about 12 weeks to heal.  and the article also said that in order for it to have shown up on the x-ray, it happened a while back (usually they’re diagnosed through MRI scanning).

I was diagnosed with one awhile back too; wore the boot for 5 weeks and then had a bone scan.  I’ve now been told it’s not a fracture but degenerative arthritis instead.  No cure, but lots of meds.

if you could think about it, please pray for my foot.  it’s killing me.  it’s swollen.  and i’m really hoping that it’s not completely broken (as i fear it is, based on the horrendous amount of pain i’m in).  i went to the ER and waited 2 and a half hours only to be told that they couldn’t do anything (other than giving me crutches and taking $100 from me), and i had to go see a specialist.

thankfully, though, my bassoon prof at the festival (who will be my teacher at UH this fall) has been helping me out today (chauffeuring me to walgreens, dinner, and the dorm...and she was going to take me to the hospital but had a rehearsal, so she let one of my friends borrow her car), and will be picking me up in the morning.  she got mad at me that i didn’t call and tell her that my foot was really bugging me, which meant a lot (that she cares enough that she wanted to be the first to know in such a case).

thanks.

on the plus side, though, i rode the coaster at new york new york (and got some of the BEST cheesecake i’ve EVER tasted), and won $4 at a slot machine (i had spent $4.75 total, so i only lost $0.75, which is really good that i had that much self-control to stop before i lost it all).  i’m hoping that my foot isn’t bothering me so much that my friend and i can’t go to the Wynn and get some gelato (my roommate says they’ve got this HUGE gelato cafe there and i REALLY want gelato!).
