My three officemates just jumped up grinning, their eyes glowing as I started to walk out of the room with my arms full of papers.
“Nancy are you actually throwing something away?”
Gorsh. I didn’t realize my desk was all that scary. Come to think of it though, they all do kind of just peek in and never get too close when they come over with a question.
Are you comfortable with clutter or do you have to have everything in place?
I just stopped and took a picture of my office. I’ll download it and share it in a little while....
Let’s just say this: I’m perfectly comfortable with clutter in my OFFICE...but not my HOME. The clutter at home drives me crazy, but in my office, well, I just know where everything is located this way.
I’m VERY comfortable with clutter at home, but not the office. My home is beyond clutter actually. I’m deathly allergic to cleaning in any form except personal hygiene.
Okay, here is the place I spend the majority of my waking hours:
It used to look a little bit better, not much, but a little. Now that I’m in a satellite office two days/week, I seem to let things pile up a little longer than I used to.
Look at the clown picture that my son drew in 3rd grade on the wall. He had it framed for a Mother’s Day gift. I’m noticing that I use an awful lot of post-it notes!!
Here’s the real clutter, behind my chair. All the report I’ve done that need to be filed…
Oh girl, you still have floor space; that’s not a messy office. I love the clown picture! Your son is really talented. Is he still into art?
I am cluttery at home and at the office. Consistency, yay me.
Now how do those of you who are neat in one place and cluttery in the other place do that? My fantasy is to be neat in at least one location but no success yet. I try but I don’t seem to notice my sloppiness until five minutes before a meeting or a houseguest. I feel like I keep wanting to hit the refresh button on my life and start over, at least in the area of neatness.
2 dried out glue sticks, 67 cents in pennies including one wheat penny, 3 large pairs of “tv anchor” earrings not worn since the 90s, a large rubber roach and a pair of green Barbie shoes....
I am really messy. I do think it comes with being creative. (Thats my normal excuse when people complain about my disorganisation!!) It does make me feel better when i have something tidy, but it isnt long (maybe a week) before its messy all over again!
At least your boss does not walk by your desk and shake his as head in total disbelief while trying to understand how I manage to get things done. I mentioned to my boss today that I am going to order some office supplies in hopes that it will help me to have a better organized desk. He said “That is a very good ideal.”
i’m doing my best to keep my mess confined to my couch (except for the 1 seat that gets used). i teach in my apartment every week, so i can’t clutter the floor so much that we can’t get chairs in place. lol. when i had a desk, it was dirty. i left for a month and came back and my co-worker had organized it and i had NO CLUE where anything was. if i have stuff “organized” in piles, i know exactly where anything is. if i try to put things away, i’ll have to search everywhere cause i won’t know where anything is. lol.
We have to finish boxing up our stuff in my office for the big renovation. I’ve been parceling out my big stuff to people whose offices are not being renovated yet.
Jim gets my TV.
Kitty has custody of my 4 foot tall Bozo the Clown punching bag.
I stashed the three foot tall baby bottle in another room.
My plants are on strange window sills.
And all my other toys, props and costumes from shoots and my glass heads and wig collection, including the infamous mullet, are all packed away.
The good news is, by the end of the day, my desk will be clean...because there won’t be anything there.
