Billy Graham’s wife Ruth died a few hours ago.

She was somebody I admired for a long time because of her creativity and mischevious spirit and the way she sacrificed a “normal” homelife to share her husband with the world.

I have this Forrest Gump way of getting to meet interesting people, but I knew somehow, even though I’ve spent time over the years at the Billy Graham Training Center and have supported the Grahams’ ministry, that she was someone I wouldn’t get to meet on earth.  But I’ve enjoyed her writings.  And stories of the way she supported Billy in his challenging ministry gave me courage on the days that I struggled trying to support my own husband’s audacious ministry dreams.

Thanks Ruth.  You were a wonderful role model for this girl.

Thanks for your comments, Nancy.  Whenever I heard any of the Grahams speak I always enjoyed the anecdotes about Ruth.  She truly must have been extraordinarily empowered by God to live the life she did, as you say, sharing her husband with the world.  We need more people who will sacrifice a normal family life for the kingdom like that.
