I really liked your article about modern vs. traditional worship. One thing that I’ve noticed over the years is that we need different types of worship, because any one person is completely unique in how they feel love the most. Some people like traditional worship services, some like modern worship services, and some like both, enjoying type one on one day and the other type on the other. For example, depending upon how my week has gone, I will like one or the other. We need different types of worship, because that is the only way to reach out to every person in the world.

The article also brings up a good point about music. I believe that, as long as music has a Christian message, it is good music, no matter how that message is expressed; whether it is expressed as pop, rock, heavy metal, gospel, oldies, country, or another form, it is all good music. Different types of music will comfort me the best at different times. For example, I love listening to your “Twilight” CD whenever I am depressed and need some slower music. I love “White Flag” and “Invitation to Eavesdrop” whenever there is any average day that I just feel like listening to music that has a variety of tunes. When I am stressed, I enjoy listening to hard rock and rap like Demon Hunter and DC Talk. As long as the music has a Christian message, the music is good, because many varieties are needed to reach out to many different attitudes and types of people.

Thank you.  And thanks for being here.

You know, I see a lot of progress from my vantage point on this whole issue of worship, compassion and music.  I get to visit loads of churches every year and I’ve noticed a bit of a rebellion against the idea of worship as music.  And if we can ever get that idea killed off - that worship is music - then I think we’ll be one step closer to being effective churches - whether we’re traditional or contemporary or emergent or whatever.

Thanks again for the encouragement.  Somehow I missed this post of yours until someone pointed it out to me.  Sorry to respond so late.

I’m in trouble when things pick up around here.  Yikes.

It is okay that it took so long for you to post a reply; taking care of a new CD, a new website, a new book, tours, and everything else in your life… whew, I totally understand the delay. That is one of the reasons that I am so suprised that you even keep up with this board at all; you are so busy, and yet you take the time to interact with fans like me. That is really awesome.
