I had that in high school, except for freshman year.  We had A day and B day, and 1st, 2nd, and 4th were different each day, but 3rd period was the same everyday (and it was shorter, also because we had lunch at some point during 3rd period).

They do too, Kristen, except they have 5 total classes each day, the 5th class is called resource (study hall) and you either
1) go to lunch then 1hr. resource,
2) go to 1/2hr. resource, lunch, back to 1/2hr. resource, or
3) go 1hr. resource, then lunch.

I do understand why a school would want to do block scheduling.  It allows for more material to be presented in a more timely fashion.  Let me explain.  At a normal school they assign fifty minutes for each class.  Now take away five minutes for roll call.  Then take away roughly five minutes of explain what you want to teach that day while allowing your class prepare for the lecture.  Now take away five minutes to review the material covered during class that leaves you roughly 35 minutes to teach your lesson.  That is not enough time when presenting complicated material.

Teaching method 101.  Start lesson off with explaining what will be covered and what is expected at the end of the lesson and how you will test for such knowlege.  Next, present material with probing question to see if the material is being retained.  If not, go back over material.  At the end of lesson review material with probing question to see if material is retained.  If not, go over section of material agian in remaining time left before end of class.

Wow!  Where did that come from?  It is amazing what you can remember from college.

My middle school kids had block scheduling when we were in DoDDS schools overseas.  I absolutely LOVED it and they did too.  Not only was it blocked, but the time of day they had each class varied too.  That way, a teacher didn’t always introduce a new lesson to the same class each time.  The more frequently you teach a topic the better you become.  Our test scores were outstanding, they always had time for homework and they also had a resource hour every other day which allowed them time to go to the library or another teacher for help or enrichment.  I wish they’d do it here in ND.

Lois, I was teasing about being up late.  I know you’re a night owl.  wink My kids’ last day was yesterday and my son is leaving today for South Carolina...they were supposed to leave yesterday right after school, but had a last minute change of plans.  So they’re leaving in an hour.

I do that putting off going to bed thing, too.  Especially if Ken has fallen asleep in front of the TV.  I kind of view that as bonus time for me before I wake him up to go to bed.  I’ve always been one to stay up too late.  My teenage boys have a 10:00 bedtime on school nights and usually they go before that, just because they like to sleep.

Thomas, I did that this morning, too and ended up getting here 30 minutes later than usual.  But I knew I was going to end up staying kind of late tonight, because I’m off for the next two weeks.  LOL

I’m a night owl to the max! I DON’T like mornings unless there is something REALLY important that’s happening the next day. Like getting up at 3 to head out to Oklahoma...that I can handle.

Anyway today’s mood is....blank stare Boredom. I am feeling very bored today.

I’m usually not a morning person either.  Except for on Christmas (although this last one, I was a little more tired than usual).

Right now… I’m back in my dorm room.  I went home Wednesday night, since I had a dentist appointment yesterday and didn’t want to drive all the way there Thursday morning (my dentist is in Lynchburg, which is 25 minutes on the other side of my hometown).  Anywho, the dentist went well…

Then I drove back today so I could go to work.  Now I get to spend the weekend working on my screenplay… I’ll start tomorrow (spoken like a true procrastinator, haha smile)

Kristen, I know what ya mean.  I’m usually the 1st one up on Christmas but for some reason I wasn’t.

So it’s still snowing/sleeting here… and it’s boring around my house..  that’s what I’m up to..

I had mine taken out the summer before 11th grade.  I was TERRIFIED.  But it wasn’t that bad.  They did it before the teeth caused any problems.  I got knocked out during the procedure.  I think the WORST part was being hungry all the time afterwards.  All I could eat soft things for a week or so, like pudding and ice cream and mashed potatoes and scrambled eggs.  I’d eat a pudding cup and it wouldn’t fill me up at all!

If you have any questions about it, Amy, let me know!  Do you know when you’re getting them out yet?

No and I am terrified. I don’t like the dentist. I have dentistobia the fear of going to the dentist. I just don’t like people having their hands in my mouth with a really sharp pointy scrapper thingy. This dentist said they could either send me to be knocked out or they could put me on laughing gas and try and take them out. Oh God me on laughing gas that’d be a nightmare!!! I’m not sure when they want me to do it but they’d like for me to do it sometime during my spring break...yeah right.

My mood today… downershy

My brother got them out on laughing gas. The dentist said he could listen to music.  So my brother, knowing it’d be the only time he’d ever be high, decided to listen to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon to see what it was like while in that kind of state, lol.

While it’d be fun to be kind of “high” while on laughing gas, I did not want to be awake for it.  It was soo funny… I became unconscious, and then it was over, like THAT.  I was surprised to hear that an hour had passed.  And then I wouldn’t stop talking… my mom said I was a little loopy.  She’s like “you have gauze in your mouth… you need to take pain pills… STOP TALKING!” lol.
