Shlog Section-f

Beth, I called them too and they told me they already had someone picked out and were mailing it to me.  I told them the same thing, I wanted to accept that child they had chosen.  I hadn’t heard anything else and that was two weeks ago. 

I called earlier today and was told that they have assigned another little girl to us.  Her name is Ana Gabriel, so we have another Ana!  She’s only 3 1/2 years old!!  I’m so excited, they are sending the information in the mail today!

And as I was looking online, I found another little girl to sponsor.  Her name is Ana Silvia...yep another Ana.  That’s the reason I clicked on her, but when I saw she was born the exact same day as my niece, I knew she was ours.  I emailed my brother and told him Miranda (my niece) has a new penpal.

All three Ana’s are from Mexico:
Ana Lilia that we sponsored for 2 years before she left the program
Ana Gabriel, the 3 1/2 yr old that was chosen by Compassion
Ana Silvia, the 7 yr old that I selected online

I broke down and sponsored another child the other day.  My goal was to eventually sponsor four children--two boys and two girls. I’m at that now, but it feels a little scary.  It feels a little like trusting God. ha.

My two girls, Shampa and Ice are from Bangladesh and Thailand.

My two boys, Vicky and Argell (my newest) are from India and Nicaragua.  I chose Argell, a boy from Nicaragua who had been on the six months or more waiting list, because Nicargua is close to Costa Rica,where my sister and her family lives.  I did an depth history project on Nicaragua in high school where I became very interested in the country.  One of my favorite students at my current job is from there as well. 

I have a new goal.  I’d eventually like to sponsor six children.  but it’s going to be a long time before I’m there.  I’m not saying all of this to say how great I am.  I’m single so I feel a responsibilty to the world’s children in a different way, maybe.  Just wanted to clear that up.

I got to work at the Compassion table for Monk and Neagle, Aaron Shust and MercyMe tonight.  51 kids sponsored and it was awesome!!!  Had the chance to chat with M and N for awhile and they are both very nice guys.  I love telling everyone about the two we sponsor so this was a very easy job!  I’ve been accepted as a new advocate in our area and will be getting lots more involved.  I can’t wait!

I kind of wanted to become an advocate, but quite frankly, I’m not sure I’d be very good at it! I’m working at a MercyMe concert next week for Compassion.

I worked my first show last night and it was such fun!  I was surprised by how much I just really enjoyed talking to the other volunteers and all the concert-goers, helping people pick out their kids, and seeing 113 kids sponsored!!

That is so cool, Amy.  113 kids sponsored.

It is amazing how a letter from the child I am sponsoring can change the day that I am having.  I have already read the letter I received today two times.  It has smile on my face and the worries of work have just disappeared.

I know what you mean Thomas.  I literally squeal with delight whenever I see a letter from one of our two boys in the mail!  They are so precious to us!  Our little Mary has just come up with a chore list she’s hoping will earn her $32 a month so she can sponsor her “own” child.  She’s willing to work her tail off in order to sponsor a child.

That’s so sweet Beth!  You knew Justin did that to me in WI, right?  He started naming all the extra chores he would do if I’d allow him to sponsor “his own” child.  I was thrilled!  And he’s been doing a good job of keeping his word. 

You guys that’s incredible and so cool!  Your kids are setting a great example!

Shaun or anyone else who blogs about Compassion...do you ever get, requests from random people to sponsor their children?

I got an email from someone in Uganda wanting me to sponsor their child.  i’m sure it’s some sort of scam, but it was really strange.

On a more Compassion related note, I was wondering if any knows how often people start a sponsorship and drop it after a month or two?
