I haven’t experienced one second of Christmas spirit yet this year. Anybody else feeling like that?

Yes, I am!  Don’t know what’s wrong with me.  *sigh*

No tree, no decorations, no shopping...maybe when hubby returns from New Orleans and we get a tree & grab the decorations from the attic and put on the Christmas music… ???

I’m there too, but I think it’s because I’m so incredibly busy at work I haven’t had time to think about it.  I am very looking forward to it though as it will be a time of rest and family for me!

You know...there’s a mangled, artificial tree in the living room and the kiddos are making gift requests and I’ve even had some eggnog this week...we even have our Christmas cards ready to go...but no Christmas spirit yet. :(

Miss Munky, you have twins on the way?  How wonderful!!!!!! It must be so cool to have a house full of kids, be able to see yourself in all the little faces that look back at you.

So hmmmm.  Is anybody in the holly jolly mood around here? How do we get there from where we all are?

The last couple of years, I had kiddies (Annisa’s) over making Christmas crafts/decorations and we had our tree up right after Thanksgiving.  This year, no kiddies have come to visit and we still don’t have a tree.  I think once Ken gets home and we get a tree, I may get into the spirit a little.  I’ve only received 5 Christmas cards in the mail so far and I usually have tons by now...maybe there are more people than just us not feelin it this year.  ???

I think another reason I’m not feelin it is because my work hours just changed and getting home at 6pm doesn’t put me in much of a mood to do anything, compared to getting home at 4:30pm. mad  I’m pretty grumpy lately.

Yes, twins on the way!  About 8 weeks to go.

I was thinking about how to get in the Christams mood, and I thought about how Christmas never really meant much to me until a couple of years ago when our church first had service on Christmas morning.  We sang Christmas songs and had communion together.  That made Christmas for me.  We have a different pastor now and I don’t think he’s going to want to have service Christmas morning...which drives me nuts!  What is the point of the church canceling service to celebrate the birth of Christ?!  It just makes no sense to me.

Anywho…

From that point on we have always had communion on Christmas morning, just as a family.  Maybe we should have our communion a little early this year to get our focus.  Also, we haven’t done anything for anyone else yet this year...that would help.

Just thinking outloud here…

well… something that i told my small group girls this week when they mentioned that the christmas story was not impacting them much anymore because they have heard it SO often was… to try to find something new and special about the story that sticks out to them.  like the fact that the wisemen traveled SO far and SO long to find the Baby Jesus.  or that mary gave up her reputation and the life she thought she was going to have to do God’s will… i dont know if that helps.

maybe we just need to take the focus off of all that we have to get done this year and remember WHY we celebrate christmas to begin with.  and what that means for us, for our families, and for the world.  i know i focus way too much on gifts for loved ones and getting work done and finals and all this stuff that stresses me out, but all we need to do is stop.  remember the Baby.  and worship Him.

i dunno… what do you guys think?

Me too, Nancy.  We finally got our tree and decorations up over the weekend and we did some Christmas shopping last night.  Buying for Justin’s little cousins (2 & 4yrs) was fun, I miss having little ones to buy for!

Shopping for little guys is the BEST!

I bought my 7-year-old nephew a Star Wars Tie bomber and you should have heard the grown men squealing like little kids to their wives when they saw the thing in my cart.  Oh my goodness. Apparently, I am now a cool woman.  It was hysterical.  LOL

My 12 year old nephew is a singer-actor and I got him DVDs of the PBS series tracing the history of the American musical. I have this vague concern that I got that for him a previous year.  Maybe not. Maybe, though… grrr
