Sara is my 2nd favorite Groves and my overall favorite female Christian singer/songwriter.  She has outdone herself in my opinion on “Tell Me What You Know”, which is saying a lot considering the quality of her work to date.  To me the standout songs are “When The Saints”, “Song for my Sons” and “I Saw What I Saw”.  What do others think of Sara’s new release?

I love it, as well.  I think “When the Saints” and “In the Girl There’s a Room” are the best on the album.  “Song for My Sons” didn’t do it for me, but I really like “Honesty” and “Abstraction” - nice pairing.

I managed to get a pre-release about two months ago and did a review on my blog.  I read the review on Christianity Today, and they practically fall over themselves trying to praise the album.

I just got it and so it will take a while for me to really listen to it, but so far, I think it’s fab.

Euphrony, thanks for those links to your review and Christianity Today.  I think that there are only a few artists even in Sara’s category (must be her last name), such as Plumb, David Crowder, Jars of Clay, Todd Agnew, Downhere and of course Shaun in my opinion.  Each of their releases have gotten deeper and more heartfelt which is a rarity in today’s “happy song” radio market.

I truly respect all of those artists for not pandering to increase sales, but instead for using their past success to make albums that are heart and Spirit driven, which all really speak to me.

My personal top 10 releases of 2006-2007:

1)Plumb, Chaotic Resolve
2)Jars of Clay, Good Monsters
3)David Crowder, Remedy
4)Sara Groves, Tell Me What You Know
5)Downhere, Wide-Eyed and Mystified
6)Todd Agnew, Better Questions
7)Jackson Waters, Come Undone
8)Anberlin, Cities
9)Robbie Seay Band, Give Yourself Away
10)Future of Forestry, Twilight

I really love this cd now that I’ve had a chance to listen to it.

I want to post the lyrics to “I Saw What I Saw” here.  I am very moved by this song and in light of Shaun’s experience in Africa, I’d love to know his thoughts on this song.

I Saw What I Saw” Lyrics
by Sara Groves | from the album Tell Me What You Know

i saw what i saw and i can’t forget it
i heard what i heard and i can’t go back
i know what i know and i can’t deny it

something on the road, cut me to the soul

your pain has changed me
your dream inspires
your face a memory
your hope a fire
your courage asks me what i’m afraid of
and what i know of love

we’ve done what we’ve done and we can’t erase it
we are what we are and it’s more than enough
we have what we have but it’s no substitution

something on the road, cut me to the soul

chorus

i say what i say with no hesitation
i have what i have but i’m giving it up
i do what i do with deep conviction

something on the road, cut me to the soul

chorus 2x

your courage asks me what i’m afraid of
your courage asks me what i am made of
your courage asks me what i’m afraid of
and what i know of love
and what i know of god
