On the old message board, we had a thread discussing our “culinary choices” AKA the weird stuff we eat.

Being among the weirdest of the weird, allow me to start…

Today’s breakfast in NancyLand:

It’s healthy, though. Fat free hot dog, my family’s secret West Virginia chili recipe made with ground turkey instead, and a whole grain bun.

And only two coworkers caught me heating it up, so I consider that a successful start to the day.  LOL

I love eating peanut butter and Nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread… best stuff ever) sandwiches.  Not necessarily weird, because chocolate and PB go good together, but I don’t know of anybody who makes them.

The goat was good but a little tough.  Pretty much, if you put gravy on it, I will eat it.  LOL

Amy, what were some unusual things you tried when you were in Japan?

When I was in Brazil I ate cow tongue, pig heart pizza and hot dogs cooked in tomato soup.

I had cow tongue one time.  It was very tender, but I couldn’t get over the feeling that I wasn’t the only one doing the tasting!  Ate a lot of ox in Saudi.  Other than being a little tougher, tasted just like beef to me.  Having been through survival school with the military, I’ve eaten some strange things.  It’s amazing how hungry you can actually get before you decide to eat something and what you are willing to eat once you reach that point!

oh man I was wondering when this thread was gonna start up again. :D

Kristen Omgosh I LOVE Nutella.  I got to try in German last year and now when I get the chance I get it at Wal Mart.

I’ve still got my weird tastes in tacos and marshmallows and all that good stuff.

Oh good.  You were the person I had in mind when I restarted the thread.  I was hoping you’d find your way here, sister weird food eater.  LOL

Amy, what were some unusual things you tried when you were in Japan?

i, too, have tried tongue, (once was enough) and tripe (again, once was enough), but perhaps one of the most interesting eating experiences in Japan was when I went to a festival with my adopted Japanese family and they delightedly bought me a fish on a stick to eat.  Yes a whole fish, on a stick.  (with some salt)
I ate the whole thing, despite the fact that I was thinking about how I was swallowing the little skull and all.  It tasted ok, they snapped pictures of my horrified face the entire time and giggled throughout.  I was their entertainment, they did stuff like this to me all the time.  But I love them dearly.

HHmm Don’t think I’ve had the almond butter one.

Thanks Nancy.

Ok so here’s a new one to add to the list.  Last month I got to see the broadway musical “Hairspray”.  They mentioned something about chicken and waffles.  The friends from school I went with, well we kinda made fun of it.  So I tried fried chicken and waffles with syrup over it.  Surprisingly, it wasn’t that bad. It was pretty good.  Different but good.
