Taylor is the best performer I’ve ever seen in person.  He’s a mellow guy off stage but when he plugs in his guitar he becomes a wild man - great to watch...and to hear.

I was disappointed with his Rocketown Records debut a while back because it didn’t capture any of this raw energy.  It was too polished, understated and well, boring.  The songs were so much better live than recorded.  I just scratched my head wondering Why would someone make try to tame this guy?  He’s a born rock star!

Well, he’s taken a break from making publicly available recordings since then, and recently reemerged with the kind of kick you in the teeth rock n’ roll we should have heard in his debut.  The new disc is called “They May Lock Us Up, They May Make Us Bleed.” And you can get four songs from it for FREE at his myspace page.

My favorite is Come On Let’s Do It.  We were on a Christmas tour together (talk about your square peg) and he was writing this then.  I heard him and his band do it with just an acoustic guitar backstage one night...with Alister Begg looking on smiling.  This is a hit song that rivals anything on the radio right now.

Taylor’s band, now called The Trigger Code (I have no idea what that’s about and I like it that way), are extremely fun to hang with as well as being sought after players here in Nashville. And they have as much to do with Taylor’s sound as he does.  I’ve seen these guys work together and they’re not hired guns passively following a font man.  They’re creating with Taylor, full of ideas and not afraid to speak up. What a gift to work with people who are unafraid to make you better.  ANd Taylor does just keep getting better. When I listen these guys make me want to never make music again and make better music all at the same time.

What do you think?

Taylor Sorensen could sing the phone book to me and I would be enthralled.

Now see, I liked “The Overflow.” Fine, fine blame my CCM upbringing. I don’t care. I still like that CD a lot!  But man, the live, raw sound is what he’s really meant to be doing. “They May Lock Us Up” is honestly what Taylor and the TC sound like onstage...minus the sound of Taylor slamming the mic and stand down on the stage in a rock n roll fit.  cool mad

Never say die, Taylor!

shaun you reminded me that i need to get my order in for their new CD.

i saw taylor at belmont in september.  it was nice to catch up with the guy, even if it was only for 5 minutes.

and i hate the fact that every time they’ve played in nashville (which has been quite a lot) i’ve had SOMETHING going on.  apparently i’m pretty busy…

Robyn, BTW the voice that I asked you to guess in that Chicago Public Radio piece that I produced was Taylor’s. I took bits from an interview we did a while back.

EVERYBODY:  see if you can pick out Taylor in the piece:

I absolutey LOVE his music!  I need to order my next copy of “They May Lock Us Up...”.  I’m wearing out the one I have now.  My two favorites are Bullet Proof and A Thing Called Love.  Bullet Proof is the banner on my cell phone to reminde me daily that because of my heavenly citizenship, I am in fact, bullet proof!

Has anybody heard Taylor’s new Christmas song, “King Herod and the Rooster?” It’s NOT your normal Christmas carol.  smile
