I was watching the Oscars last week and realized that they have a humanitarian award they give out. It made me wonder why is it that the Oscars have this award but we don’t have one at the Doves? There are so many artists out there that have worked hard for organizations like Compassion International, World Vision, Bloodwater Mission, etc. Shaun is one of those artists. My proposal is that the Doves should have a humanitarian award but I’m not sure how it should be awarded? Any ideas? For Compassion it’s pretty easy because you can total up the amount of sponsorships they have gotten at their concerts. I’m not sure about other organizations. I truly think this is one award Shaun has a chance of winning and I imagine it would be the one he would treasure the most.

Well Shaun’s certainly on his way, but there are a number of artists who have come before him in using their musical gift as a tool for ministry.  Margaret Becker and Geoff Moore come to mind as two who have been pointing fans toward child sponsorships for decades. Bono’s another artist who’s been putting his name and his fame behind important causes for a long time.

No offense, Rick, but it would really put me off if there were a humanitarian award at the Doves.  It doesn’t seem to me that humanitarians are an exceptional thing among Christians; they’re kinda supposed to be the norm.

I think it’ll be cool to see how God rewards the musician-types in Heaven for the way they’ve used their gifts and public influence here.

How about the Can-I-Get-A-Break Award. That would be a great award. Or maybe the Indy Artist of The Year Award. Or possibly the I’m-From-Texas Award.

I completely agree with Nancy’s comments and there are so many Christian artists who do a great job with that, it’s not necessary.  As far as awards go, I also agree with the Indie artist comment and if they nominate for live projects, I think “One Night In Knoxville” totally deserves a nomination.  We’ll see for 2008!

How about spending time highlighting a project and then donating some money to it?
