Hey!

If you’re new to this message board community, this welcome is especially for you.

Sometimes people just read the forums for a while before they feel comfortable joining and posting (that’s how I started on message boards--they terrified me!).  Other people prefer to just join up and start posting right away.

Whatever your style, know that you’re wanted here.  This is a friendly and open community of men and women who enjoy hanging out online together, sharing thoughts and laughs.

The most significant difference between the message board and the three blogs on this site is that on the board, you can start your own topics and talk about whatever, whenever.  Well that, and you can use smileys.

cool smile

If you have any questions, feel free to post them here, email or private message me anytime.

nancy

I’m trying to figure out how this board works, exactly.  On the old board, I could show only what had been posted since I’d last been here.  I can’t quite figure out how to do that here…

I don’t know that you can but anything that’s been added or added to since your last visit should be bolded for easy spotting.

On the Forum Home page, there’s a link below the message board search bar and above the “what’s on your mind” forum that says “view new posts.” I think it must only show posts that have been posted in the last hour that you haven’t seen and not ALL of the posts you haven’t seen in total though.  The most thorough way to find all the posts you haven’t seen seems to be clicking the bold thread titles in each forum.

Only thing I miss about the old boards would have to be that you could see what you were replying to under your postings...does that make sense?

I miss not being able to click on the last post in a topic.  The closest you can get is the beginning of the last page.  I also miss having to return to the top of the page to return to the current forum.  Menu choices at the bottom of the screen were nice!

I saw that button Nancy, but I figured out that I was still missing some new posts.  Amy and Beth, I agree with you about those things.  But we’ll figure out ways to get around them in time. I hope. I’m figuring out more each time I log on...just saw the quote button at the top for the first time.  There’s so much to look at!

Hey Beth...just figured something out.  There are page numbers that you can click on to get to the last page of the post.

Oops I just re-read what you wrote and it looks like you already knew that.  red face

I just figured out that if you click on the “posted xxx minutes ago” thing above the post author’s name, it takes you to the last post!  Yeah!  Now if I could just get my menus at the bottom too, it’d be perfect!

Ok, to see the previous posts in the thread that you’re replying to, in the “post a new reply” view, at the very bottom of the page in the shaded bar above the rss and atom icons, there is a link called “thread review.” Click that and below the box you type your reply in, they’ll show you the ten previous posts on the thread that you’re responding to.  Then there will also be another link that you can “click to read this entire thread.”

Found only one thing I don’t like about the boards so far. The whole newbie status thing. I mean I get it and everything but come on ya steal my 13hundred some odd posts to make the new boards and I’m back at 0 being called a newbie. PUUUlease.

Course I won’t have a problem with it when I finally get to like that level where it’s like overload or something like that. It’s just a little annoying and I miss my post number. I was proud of that post number. Course it meant that I didn’t have a life but what the hey.

I know what you mean.  I didn’t have as many posts as you, but I think I was at 200- or maybe even 300- something.  Now I have 22 (this one will make 23).  lol.  But hey, it’ll be fun trying to get up to where we were.  Although it looks like you have to make 30 posts to get out of the “newbie” status.  Why couldn’t it have been 10?  Or even 20?  lol.

Don’t forget everyone, that if you have a feature request or a question about how the site works, feel free to send me and email or an IM. I’m trying to check the boards for questions as well, but if you want to guarantee I’ll see your question or problem, just email me at thekatjacobs AT gmail DOT com or IM me at thekatjacobs (aim)

It looks like most of the issues mentioned in this post have been figured out.

1. To view recent posts. On the FORUM HOME page click on the link at the top that says “View New Posts” - that should show the new posts since your last visit.
2. To view the topics that have been replied to today, click on the FORUM HOME page and click “View Topics Active Today”
3. To view the thread that you are replying to, click the button at the bottom of the post submission page entitled “THREAD REVIEW”
4. To NOT be automatically registered to receive email notification on a posts, just click your MEMBER CONTROL PANEL (at the top of the page) and click EMAIL SETTINGS then deselect “Enable email notifications by default when you post messages.”
5. To see the latest post in a topic, just click on the title underneath the LATEST POST INFO and that will take you to the most recent reply.

I *think* I covered all the questions I’ve seen so far, but again, please feel free to contact me if you have other questions.

To what menus are you referring, Beth?

Trying to make it perfect,

There were options at the bottom of the old boards that said something like “Shaun Groves.com Forums” and Then “All About Shaun” or whatever current section of the forum we were in.  Clicking on that would return you to the main forum screen or to the beginning of the sub-forum so you could pick the next topic.  These are currently at the top of the page only on this site.  I’d just like the same options at the bottom too so I don’t have to go to the top of the screen or pick the “previous” or “next” topic only.
