Is TV evil?

I decided to bring this question for discussion over here, so as not to derail any more shlog posts!

I confess....I like to watch tv. I’ve definitely lived without watching tv. I definitely know that there’s some bad bad stuff on tv. I know that it can be used as a propaganda tool and “influence” thinking.
I also think, though, that just because there are shows like that, it doesn’t mean tv itself is evil. I think scripted television shows can be an art form. I think that television shows can be delightful, thought provoking, inspiring and informative.

I think the same things about music. And fiction. And films.

So while I don’t think someone should spend 24 hours a week watching tv (unless I guess, they’re a television critic), I don’t think tv is evil. I think like those other things I mentioned, it can be used for both good or evil.

Am I wrong?

This is just a suggestion but can we get like an edit button on our comments section in Shlog so we could log back in and re-edit what we comment on? Ya know that way if I think of something clever to say 3 hours later but have already posted once I can just go back and add to it instead of making a new post.

Shlogcast volume 3? Me vs. Amy Grant part 2?

Okay, I’m in big time Shlogcast withdrawal. If Shaun is going for less is more, it’s working. Since Shlogcast volume 2, Amy Grant has cranked out 3 podcasts (20 minutes each) where she is shamelessly self-promoting her entire music catalog being available in digital format for the first time ever for the low, low price of something like $79.99. If it includes the autographed Amy Grant “El Shaddai” edition 80 GB video iPod, I’m in, unless Shaun can match Amy’s 3rd podcast which will give me something to do instead of listening to Amy saying (gasp) when she was 15 her first song “Mountain Man” included the line “not having to sleep alone anymore”. Pretty juicy stuff, I don’t know if Shaun is up to the challenge.

Where can someone in your community go when they’re being abused? I don’t know of any organizations or programs that help in these situations in the Nashville area unless kids are involved. I’m sure they exist, I just don’t know about them? What are they even called? I don’t even know what to Google?
